His commentary addresses American elections, political leadership, government policy, and the evolving political landscape in Washington, D.C., and across the United States.

His campaigns provided firsthand experience navigating the complexities of electoral politics, engaging with voters, and addressing the challenges facing residents of the nation’s capital.

His experience as both a candidate for executive office and a community representative gives him a distinctive understanding of politics at the grassroots and citywide levels. That perspective informs his analysis of political leadership, public policy, and the relationship between government and the people it serves.

In 2026, Butler served as an adjunct professor of Professional Responsibility at George Mason University’s Antonin Scalia Law School, where he taught legal ethics, professional accountability, and the responsibilities of attorneys.

Butler earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Kent State University and his Juris Doctor from The Ohio State University Moritz College of Law. His academic background complements a career that has brought together public service, political leadership, legal advocacy, and university teaching.

Beyond his professional pursuits, Butler is an avid runner who appreciates the discipline, perseverance, and mental clarity that running provides. Whether navigating the demands of political life or pursuing personal goals, he embraces the importance of resilience, continuous growth, and maintaining a balanced perspective.

Before establishing himself as a political commentator, Butler built a professional career in civil rights advocacy, representing individuals in employment discrimination and other civil rights matters. His experience includes participation in more than 100 mediations, providing him with extensive practical experience in negotiation, dispute resolution, and navigating complex institutional challenges.
